Ben Wesselschmidt joined Sandberg Phoenix as an associate in 2017, from another large regional law firm, bringing a wide range of insurance coverage, bad faith, employment law and complex civil litigation experience, including class action defense and large scale insurance fraud litigation. Ben also has extensive appellate knowledge, having formerly served as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Robert M. Clayton III on the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District.
“My appellate clerkship experience sharpened every aspect of my legal writing and analysis skills,” said Ben. “I bring this unique perspective to my service for every client, and Sandberg Phoenix is the perfect environment to address even the most complex legal issues.”
Outside the office, Ben is an avid amateur cyclist and vintage racing bike collector. He spends most of his time with his wife Ashleigh, chasing around their three-year old son.
Ben graduated Summa Cum Laude from Truman State University with a Bachelor of the Arts in English. After pursuing his undergraduate degree, Ben served as a special projects assistant to the Director of the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law Cum Laude in 2013.
Ben also stays active in the community. As an annual fundraiser and participant in Pedal the Cause, Ben raises funds for leading edge cancer research for Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and as a supporter of Trailnet, Ben advocates for the expansion of pedestrian-friendly greenways in the St. Louis area.
Ben is licensed to practice law in the state of Missouri.
