With more than five years of experience in health law matters, Corey A.-T. Stegeman joined Sandberg Phoenix in 2014. Working with clients ranging from physicians of varying specialties, nurses, physicians assistants, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, and dentists to hospitals, psychiatric treatment centers, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities, Corey focuses his practice on medical malpractice defense. Through this experience, he has developed an extensive knowledge of the intricacies of medical malpractice cases faced by specialized medical practitioners and the best course for resolving issues quickly and effectively. Corey has also assisted healthcare facilities with premises liability matters.

“Sandberg Phoenix is renowned as a firm with a strong health law practice,” Corey says. “With my previous experience defending medical malpractice actions in Virginia, the firm was a great fit as I looked to move back to my hometown and I’m excited to be a part of a great health law team.”

His experience and interest in medical malpractice has led him to become a highly effective advocate for health law clients in a variety of specialized practices.

“Medical malpractice cases are complex and extremely stressful for clients, and I work tirelessly to alleviate the issues they face in pursuit of the best possible resolution to every matter,” says Corey.

Outside the office, Corey enjoys spending time with his family and friends and watching Cardinals and Blues games. He can also be found playing golf, volunteering and working on his Jeep.

Background

Receiving his bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia, Corey’s academic performance placed him on the Dean’s List and earned him membership in the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Fraternity and National Society of Collegiate Scholars. He also served as a member of his Second and Third Year Class Councils and performed community service through Madison House.

Corey went on to earn his Juris Doctor from Washington University, where he served as a Primary Editor of the Washington University Global Studies Law Review and was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and its community service committee.

He has been recognized for his outstanding work in the field of Medical Malpractice Defense by Virginia Super Lawyers, who named Corey to their list of Rising Stars in 2013 and 2014, and he was also recognized by Virginia Lawyers Weekly for his role as second chair attorney in two multi-million dollar defense verdicts in 2011. He was recognized by Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers from 2013 – 2017 as a Rising Star.

He currently serves as a member of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. Corey is licensed to practice law in the states of Missouri, Illinois, the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland, and before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia.

Associate Meghan E. Lewis joined Sandberg Phoenix Overland Park in 2014 after spending four years at another Kansas City area law firm. An experienced Business Litigation attorney, Meghan regularly works with insurance carriers, businesses large and small, and business and legal professionals on a variety of legal matters. Her practice areas include insurance coverage defense, contractual disputes, business torts, professional liability, employment law, and appellate practice. She also has experience in personal injury defense and toxic tort cases, including diacetyl or “popcorn lung” matters.

“Sandberg Phoenix was a great fit for the next step in my career,” Meghan says, “because of its wide range of practice areas and commitment to superior client service.”
