Biography

David Hoffman joined Sandberg Phoenix & von Gontard in 2003, and became a Shareholder in November 2012. He focuses his practice in the firm’s products liability and general litigation areas.

David has experience working on a variety of sports injury lawsuits, including issues related to supervision, faulty equipment and the applicability of waivers. Prevention of sports-related injuries and lawsuits is of keen interest to him as well. As such, he lectures on risk management issues to a variety of local businesses and recreational professionals.

Trucking and transportation are also areas of specialty for David. He is experienced in litigating trucking cases in both Missouri and Illinois, and obtained a defense verdict in a wrongful death case involving a truck in Pettis County, Missouri in 2011.

David is also no stranger to appellate work. He has successfully argued appeals in the Courts of Appeal for the Eastern and Southern Districts of Missouri. His first published appeal is Hooe v. Saint Francis Medical Center, et al, 284 S.W.3d. 738 (Mo.Ct.App.2009).

In 2009, David was named as a Rising Star by the Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers publication. David was also named in 2009 by Missouri Lawyers Weekly as one of Missouri’s “Up and Coming Lawyers.” For his outstanding work in Product Liability Litigation Defense, David was selected by his peers as a Best Lawyer for inclusion in “Best Lawyers in America” in 2016 and 2017.

Civic Activities

David is a Regional Board Member of the Anti-Defamation League of Missouri and Southern Illinois. In addition, David serves on the Anti-Defamation League’s National Civil Rights Committee.

In 2013, David began is three-year tenure on the City of Creve Coeur’s Historic Preservation Committee.

Professional Activities

David is admitted to practice law in Illinois, Missouri, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois and the United States Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit.

He is a member of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, the St. Louis County Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute and the DRI Trucking Law Committee. David is also a member of the Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers and the St. Louis Sports Commission.

In addition, David is very active with internal firm activities. He is a member of the firm’s Diversity, Recruiting and Professional Development Committees. He is dedicated to the Summer Associate Program, which he has supervised from 2006 through 2013.

Education

David earned his Juris Doctor from Saint Louis University School of Law in 2003.

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois in 1999.
