Shareholder David Howard’s experience includes three diverse areas: law, technology and business. In particular, David has experience in corporate and intellectual property rights law; technology research and development, national and international standards development and negotiations, engineering and technology planning, and business planning, technical regulatory, financing, operations and management. His current law practice includes preparing and prosecuting patents, registering trademarks and copyrights, licensing, counseling clients, rendering opinions, preparing transactional agreements, preparing FCC regulatory filings, litigation and settlements. His technology practice has included many electrical, electronic and mechanical technologies and subjects including systems and methods related to: computer systems; software and business methods; telecommunications systems; locomotives/trains; nuclear reactor systems; bearing systems; financial transaction systems; semiconductor devices; nanotechnology; electrical and mechanical devices and control systems’ sensor systems; manufacturing systems; and medical devices and systems.
Prior to his law practice, David served as corporate counsel, general counsel, secretary and later COO and President of a 350-person professional engineering, consulting and software company. He has provided intellectual property services to a wide variety of corporate and individual clients in matters relating to U.S. and foreign patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, licensing, due diligences, FCC regulatory proceedings and enforcement of intellectual property rights.
In his spare time, David enjoys his family life and spending time with his wife, their three children and two golden retrievers. David is an avid ice hockey player and downhill skier and enjoys farming, motorcycling, hiking, camping and tending to the always needed mechanical and motor vehicle repairs.
David earned his Juris Doctor from the Saint Louis University School of Law, graduating cum laude and elected Order of the Woolsack. Prior to law school, he earned his Master in Business Administration from Webster University graduating with Honors and as a Distinguished Graduate. In addition he earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and was part of Eta Kappa Nu.
He is a member of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, the Missouri Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the International Trademark Association, the Missouri and National Societies of Professional Engineers and Hockey North America.
David is admitted to practice in the states of Missouri, Illinois and Colorado and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
