Jillian Van Hoy, Associate

Biography

After serving as a Summer Associate, Jillian Van Hoy joined Sandberg Phoenix as an Associate in 2015. Focusing her legal work on health law, including medical malpractice, regulatory issues and long-term care and senior living matters, Jillian also handles business litigation and product liability cases, such as labor and employment law matters and contract disputes.

“I’ve known for a long time about the professional environment and great atmosphere at Sandberg Phoenix,” Jillian says. “When the opportunity to join presented itself, I couldn’t pass up the chance to work with some extraordinary attorneys.”

When working with clients, Jillian remains focused on obtaining the best result for her clients, whether that is litigation, settlement or alternative dispute resolution. Always learning, she stays up-to-date on the newest developments in legal matters affecting her clients and applies best practices to pursue their best interests.

“One of the best aspects of practicing law is that each case is different, which means something new every day, and keeping up with the law as it evolves is incredibly exciting, ,” says Jillian.

Outside her legal practice, Jillian spends time with her husband and family exploring St. Louis. She enjoys running, figure skating and attending Cardinals games.

Background

Jillian earned her bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Illinois, where she was the recipient of numerous honors, including the Marjorie Fletcher Burgess Scholarship, membership on the Dean’s List and with Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, in addition to receiving the Bronze Tablet Award. Jillian also studied abroad at the University of Cambridge and participated in the University of Illinois Synchronized Skating Team.

Attending Washington University School of Law, Jillian graduated magna cum laude, earning her Juris Doctor along with many distinguished honors. Among these were the Order of the Coif, the Dean’s List, the CALI Award in both Evidence and Health Law, and the Wiley Rutledge Moot Court Competition Golden Quill Award for Best Brief. She was also selected as an Honor’s Scholar Award and Scholar in Law Award recipient, as well as serving as a Staff Editor of the Journal of Law and Policy.

Prior to joining Sandberg Phoenix, Jillian served as a Research Assistant at the American Law Institute and as a Legal Intern for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois.

Jillian is a member of the Defense Research Institute and Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. She is licensed to practice law in the state of Missouri..
