Biography

In 2010, Kathryn M. Huelsebusch joined Sandberg Phoenix, bringing several years of experience in medical malpractice, earned at firms in St. Louis and Edwardsville, Illinois. As an Associate in the firm’s Health Law Practice Group, Katie focuses on medical malpractice, defending hospitals, nurses and physicians, as well as home health care companies, long-term care and senior living facilities and mental health treatment centers. She also defends small- and medium-sized businesses facing a wide variety of issues, including premises liability, personal injury and breach of contract.

At home, Katie spends time with her daughter, husband and golden retriever mix. She is also an avid audiobook listener.

Background

Earning her Bachelor of Arts in Politics from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., Katie wrote for the campus paper and graduated cum laude. During her undergraduate career, she interned for members of the U.S. Congress in 1998 and 1999 and for a member of the United Kingdom Parliament in 2000.

Prior to law school, she was the Program Coordinator for Women Executives in State Government, a non-profit organization in Washington, D.C. Katie went on to earn her Juris Doctor in 2005 from Saint Louis University School of Law, where she was a member of the Saint Louis University Public Law Review.

As a member of the Defense Research Institute Women in the Law Committee, Katie is part of a network of more than 6,000 women that supports the advancement of women’s legal careers by providing education and professional development opportunities.

Katie served as a Program Coordinator from 2007-2013 for the Judicial Branch of the YMCA Missouri Youth in Government Program, which offers high school students throughout Missouri the opportunity to build leadership skills and experience government. Katie also served as the Advisor to the Judicial Branch students of St. Joseph’s Academy in St. Louis, Missouri from 2007-2009.

Katie is licensed to practice law in Missouri and Illinois and before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri. She is also admitted to practice at the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, which hears monetary claims against the U.S. Government.

Successes

George Wagner v. Collinsville Sports Club, Inc., Madison County, IL (2010). Successfully arbitrated a case in which plaintiff alleged he contracted MRSA infection from a slip and fall in the men’s shower at the health club.
