Biography

Joining Sandberg Phoenix in 2010, Mara works primarily with small- and medium-sized financial institutions, providing general business advice as well as assistance with regulatory compliance, document drafting, mergers & acquisitions, contract review, negotiations, complex loan workouts and foreclosures. In addition to her banking law work, she is also experienced in wealth planning, helping individuals with standard and traditional estate planning matters as well as trust administration, probate, advanced tax planning and drafting customized trusts for special needs children and same sex couples.

In recognition of her outstanding client service, legal knowledge and charitable work, Mara was honored by Missouri Lawyers Weekly as a 2016 Rising Star.

Background

Receiving her bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude from the University of Missouri at Columbia, Mara went on to earn her Juris Doctor cum laude from Saint Louis University School of Law. During law school, Mara served as a research fellow, focusing on the intersection between psychology and the law.

Mara is a member of the Missouri Bankers Association, serving on their Legal Planning Committee. She is also Chair of the firm’s Financial Industry Team and is part of the Sandberg Phoenix Women’s Forum.

Previously Mara served as Chair the Sandberg Phoenix Charitable Efforts Committee for four years, was a volunteer with Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters and was also highly involved with the Center for Hearing and Speech.

Mara is licensed to practice in Missouri and Illinois, including the Eastern and Western District of Missouri and the Southern District of Illinois.
