Don Hageman is a member of Sandberg Phoenix’s Intellectual Property practice group. Don primarily assists the IP and Construction practice groups on a variety of matters.
Don assists in offering strategic guidance to developers, contractors, architects, and other stakeholders involved in construction projects of varying scales. From contract negotiation and drafting to dispute resolution, Don ensures that clients are equipped with the legal framework necessary to mitigate risks and achieve their project objectives efficiently. Additionally, Don has helped navigate zoning regulations and land use issues for clients involving the sale of a quarry to a large construction company.
On the IP side, Don has worked with international and national clients in industries from large international insurance companies to foreign car manufacturers, to help protect their valuable intellectual property assets. Don handles IP portfolio management, IP asset purchase agreements, licensing agreements, patent and trademark infringement matters, patent prosecution, TTAB proceedings, DMCA takedowns, UDRP proceedings, and IP due diligence for mergers & acquisitions.
Don attended Saint Louis University School of Law as a Dean’s Select Scholar, earning his Juris Doctorate. While in law school Don was the co-president of the school’s Student IP Association. Additionally, he was on SLU Law’s patent drafting team, who placed third out of twenty teams in the regional round at the USPTO 2023 National Patent Application Drafting Competition. Before law school Don attended Saint Louis University, as an Ignatian Scholar, where he earned his degree in Biochemistry, with extended coursework in Mathematics and French.
In between his summers at Sandberg Phoenix, Don worked at a large international law firm that is considered the largest law firm in the world, where he performed IP portfolio due diligence to help close a M&A deal totaling $107M.
Based on his background in intellectual property, mergers & acquisitions, construction, and biochemistry, Don can assist clients on a larger scale making sure that their company or brand is protected at whatever phase they are in.
In his spare time, Don enjoys hanging out with family and friends, playing/watching hockey, cycling, golfing, going to the gym, and catching up on any new anime/manga.

Successfully assisted in closing an M&A deal involving a company creating a market-leading emergency pre-emption and traffic signal priority solution, totaling US $107M.
Successfully assisted in the acquisition of a US based trucking company by a Canadian trucking giant.
