Teresa Bartosiak is a shareholder at Sandberg Phoenix. She is the Chair of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Section of the Products Liability practice group and has served as Chair of the firm’s Health Law practice group for several years. Teresa’s practice is concentrated in the areas of medical malpractice, nursing home litigation, products liability and personal injury litigation.
Teresa is Regional Counsel for MPIC, handling their nursing home litigation. She has served as National Counsel managing hundreds of Product Liability cases for a large equipment manufacturer and Regional Counsel for a vehicle manufacturer, assisting with development of a material database to coordinate discovery.
Heckes v. Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Circuit Court of St. Louis City. This was a medical malpractice/wrongful death case in which plaintiff alleged the defendant failed to diagnose neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Defense verdict.
Prather v. Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Circuit Court of St. Louis City. This was a medical malpractice/wrongful death case in which plaintiff alleged defendants failed to properly diagnose and treat the decedent’s hyperkalemia causing her death. Hung jury.
Klugesherz v. Honda. Circuit Court of St. Louis City. The firm represented Honda in a two-month trial. The jury verdict was $7.25 million for the plaintiff. It was later taken away by the trial court through a JNOV and affirmed on appeal.
Thornton v. Gray Automotive. This case was tried in Jackson County, Missouri. Plaintiff was severely injured when a truck jack lifting approximately 6 tons slipped out from under a truck and hit him in the face causing extensive damages and the loss of an eye. Plaintiff alleged design defect. The jury returned a verdict for plaintiff of $450,000 but found him 95% at fault.
Dr. Altug v. St. Anthony’s Medical Center. Circuit Court of Madison County, Illinios. Wrongful termination and contract dispute. Settled during trial.
Pestel v. Vermeer. United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. Product liability action. Directed verdict for defendant.
Rouse v. Boys & Girls Club. Circuit Court of Madison County, Illinois. Premises liability action. Verdict for plaintiff in the amount of $30,000. Verdict was under plaintiff’s last demand.

Prior to joining Sandberg Phoenix, Teresa was Judicial Clerk to the Honorable William H. Crandall, Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District from 1993-1994.
Teresa is an active volunteer. She has devoted a significant amount of time to many charitable organizations including The Alton Boys and Girls Club, The United Way, and The Ronald McDonald House.
