Home for the Holidays: Navigating Divorce at the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

December 15, 2022

Holidays can be especially difficult for parents going through a divorce, and that difficulty can often be felt by their children. In approaching holidays with children during and after a divorce, rather than focusing on the past, think about what you want to do now and in the future. Create new memories and new traditions; include family and friends who are supportive and loving.

Allow yourself and your children time to process emotions that the holiday season brings up, but also provide a space to think about what you want for this and future holiday seasons to look like.

Making the holidays a joyful season, even when a family is going through a divorce, is not easy, but it can be done. Putting your children at the forefront of your mind and making this time festive for them, can also make parents feel more at peace.
