Katherine Melzer

Katherine A. Melzer joined Sandberg Phoenix in 2019. She serves as part of the firm’s Health Law practice group, focusing on medical malpractice and long-term care litigation. Katherine prides herself on her attention to detail and her ability to communicate with clients and defend their interests effectively and efficiently, while handling all stages of litigation from filing and service of the lawsuit through discovery, depositions, jury trial, post-trial phases, and before appellate courts.

She brought with her experience in advising municipal and governmental clients on matters such as contract review, ordinance drafting, and property leasing. Katherine applies this experience to her healthcare and provider clients by assisting with pre-suit investigations and witness interviews, respondent-in-discovery matters, drafting non-litigation documents such as information releases and waivers, policies, and professional licensure responses. When not serving her clients in litigation, Katherine enjoys presenting on medical malpractice topics through learning labs and seminars.

She is a member of the hospital industry, healthcare services industry, and long-term care committees.  On the long-term care committee, Katherine takes lead in providing the team quarterly updates of long-term care law throughout Illinois and Missouri.
