Representative Experience
Following a week-long jury trial in the 22nd Circuit in St. Louis City, Morgan obtained a complete defense verdict on behalf of an employer. The lawsuit alleged race, sex, and age discrimination, sexual harassment, and retaliation under the Missouri Human Rights Act. Only two of the original five claims brought by the Plaintiff were submitted to the jury after dismissal of the other three claims through motions for directed verdict. Morgan received this favorable verdict as a first chair with less than one year of licensure.
Morgan won on a motion for directed verdict for punitive damages in an employment trial on claims of race discrimination in promotional testing and denial of promotion under Missouri state law.
As co-counsel, Morgan achieved partial summary judgment on claims of civil conspiracy under Section 1985, First Amendment retaliation, as well as Fifth, and Fourteenth Amendment due process violations under Section 1983, on behalf of the City of St. Louis, an elected official, and an appointed authority. The remaining claims were appealed to the Eighth Circuit.
Morgan has won several Unemployment Appeals before the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.
